The paper “Artificial Intelligence in Organizations: New Opportunities for Phenomenon-Based Theorizing” by Prof. von Krogh was published in Academy of Management Discoveries.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a rapidly emerging phenomenon of economic and organisational significance. The article offers a brief introduction to AI in organisations and proposes that the functioning of AI these systems relevant to organisations, entails task input (data: sound text, images, and numbers), task processes (algorithms), and task outputs (solutions and decisions). By considering such functions in organisations, new research opportunities emerge in areas of decision-making and problem-solving. Advancing academic work in these areas is of key importance at this particular moment in time, and should ultimately aim at helping practitioners adopt an informed, prudent, and realistic approach to AI.
